Fiddleheads, Cat grass,etc.

Ok – I ate ferns (aka fiddleheads)!

After all the positive comments about the delicacy called fiddleheads... I took the plunge and we bought some the next time we went to the grocery store.  This is my time for trying new things, after all, eh?   David cooked them up – using lots of butter and garlic, as suggested.  I did make him eat the first bite (I am a true wimp at heart).
They were actually ok, and I survived!  They weren’t totally “awesome”, but perhaps the fine restaurants have a secret ingredient in their recipe.  Anyway – I did it…it was interesting, but I'm not too keen on trying it again.

I went back to Dizz’s deli because I really wanted to try some of their other items.  They have a delicious spicy chicken peanut stir fry and some other tasty vegetables.  All precooked for super easy dinners!  We even bought a rainbow bagel… just because it is so pretty!  Don’t you agree?

Since I can’t let the cats outside these days, I fell for the purchase of some indoor grass for them to eat.  I watered the little tray, placed it in the sunlight, and diligently watched it grow.  I put it out for Purrcy, and typical of any toy or treat that you buy specifically for a cat – he sniffed at it, turned up his nose, and walked away totally disinterested.  My next plan is to put it on the table and pretend to eat it myself.  We’ll see if that peaks his interest.

I'm sure you've heard about the iconic giant orange orb along the highway in Montreal?  What?  No?  Well - it is called Gibeau Orange Julep (serving a similar drink, but not identical to the Orange Julius known in the US).   It is a two storey high big round orange building and rumor has it that Hermas Gibeau (the founder) intended to live in it with his family. The company was established in 1932 and this structure can be seen from a lot of places around town (even from our apartment).  While we were out and about this week, we finally made a stop there.  To be honest, I’ve never really cared for the Orange Julius drinks but here they have a version with ice cream in it.  In my opinion, you can put ice cream in pretty much anything and I'll drink it.  It was quite yummy.  The place is super casual you order at the window and sit at picnic tables outside. They have various other items such as hot dogs, pretzels, and burgers.  In the summertime, it is open until 3:00 a.m. so it must be quite a hoppin’ place.

I have updates on the start of the festival season in Montreal, but that will be a separate post.  So please keep checking back!
