Sunday April 8
We stopped into the Little Bear store to
look at cat toys. Our kitties are
missing our furniture just as much as we are – at least we get to go
outside everyday. So, we bought a new
scratching pad – with catnip and Zooka is even using it! Win-win for all of us! I also bought some
organic “grass” that we can grow inside.
Purrcy will love that.
Tuesday April 10 – MOVE IN DAY
Finally – today our furniture will be
delivered. So – the back story here is
that my frugal gene took over when we planned the move. Instead of just hiring a moving company (and
paying a fortune) we opted for a company called U-Pack. They dropped a trailer (I thought it was
going to be pod sized) in our driveway and David, Danny and Todd managed to squeeze
all of stuff into the back 17 feet of this big honking trailer. Then the U-Pack people filled the rest of the
trailer with commercial goods and they deliver our stuff after the other
shipments have been made. Sounds easy
enough, eh? NOT! On the back end (here in Montreal) we hired
some movers to help us with the unloading.
First we hired 2 guys for 2 hours.
Then we upped it to 4 guys. Because
of the construction work in the lobby of the building and 1 of the 2 elevators out
of commission, it took more like 3.5 hours to get the trailer unloaded. But
wait – there’s more. We had to rent a
storage locker because we were unable to part with so many of our treasured
items. David had to Uber over to a U-Haul
place to rent (another) truck to move all the boxes that won’t fit in our
apartment. Fortunately, one of the
movers was available to stay and help load the U-Haul. I really had no idea David had packed so many
HUGE boxes of tools. The same guy even
met us over at the storage locker and helped unload the boxes. Needless to say – it was a long day… like
any moving day is. I just don’t move
very often so I forget how much work is involved. Oh – and when we got back to our building –
we had to completely disassemble the big IKEA book case (in the lobby) because
it wouldn’t fit in the elevator.
